Walking Tours to discover Strumica

Strolling through Strumica: Uncover an Enchanting Fusion of History, Culture and Nature

1. Trakata Circuit: The Cosy Commuter (Short)

Distance: 1.5 km (0.9 miles), Time: 20-30 mins

As the old adage goes, 'the greatest gifts come in the smallest packages', and the same holds true for our Trakata Circuit. Beginning and ending at Strumica's Old Bazaar, this delightful romp through the heart of Strumica often takes just a smidge of time.

From the bustling energy of 17th-century bazaar to the serene calm of the Church of St. Leontius – a proverbial gem whose frescoed walls sing stories of bygone eras – you'll feel like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole into a world where time seems to potter along its charming course. Ah, to bottle up that feeling, right?

2. Establishing Elegance: Medieval Meanderings (Medium)

Distance: 7km (4.3 miles), Time: 2-3 hours

Immerse yourself in North Macedonia's lyrical history with this medium-length loop that ties together Strumica's ancient past. Strap on your walking boots and kick off from the cheerily verdant Strumica Park.

Carrying whispers of medieval grandeur, the ruins of the Strumica Fortress (Czar's Towers) await atop a handsome hill. Consider it not just a climb, but your chronological ticket back to 6th century Byzantine Macedonia. Soak in the panoramic vista of the city – unabashedly picturesque, I tell you!

Continuing along our temporal tango, we descend back to the modern world, rounding off our journey at Monastery St. Leontius - an oasis of spiritual solace that dodged the tides of time.

3. Gojan's Guided Grandeur: The Long and Bountiful Road (Long)

Distance: 20 km (12.4 miles), Time: 6-7 hours

Strumica isn't just about historic sites nestled in vibrant urban pockets. Oh, no siree! Our longest walking route, affectionately christened Gojan's Guided Grandeur, weaves its merry way through a larger stretch of Strumica's alluring hinterlands. Flex those calves and let's embark on this epic odyssey, shall we?

Starting at the tranquil Goce Delčev Park, leisurely amble your way through citrus-scented streets up to Kosturnica, an eloquent monument dedicated to brave hearts of the Ilinden period.

The pièce de résistance of our trek is the Smolare Waterfall—the tallest in Macedonia. As you behold the majestic roar of water cascading – a glimmery procession from a staggering 39.5m height - one word bubbles up to the surface - transfixing.

Replenish your energy and savour local epicurean fare at Vodoca Monastery. With its honey-coloured bricks haloed in the golden sun, it’s as much a feast for the eyes as for your taste buds.

And there go, the Scintillating Strumica, parsed and parceled into bite-sized routes, just for you. Remember folks, no walk is too small or too big when you’ve got the spirit of exploration checking in your boots!
