Walk This Way: Denton's Best Strolling Routes Uncovered!
Greetings curious souls! Buckle up (or should I say, lace up?), as we're about to embark on a grand tour, the true Denton's way, by foot! I've handpicked three absolutely enchanting walking trails. So, whether you prefer a short jaunt, a moderate meander, or a long and leisurely amble, there's a route with your name on it!
Short N' Sweet: Courthouse Square (1.6 km, 1 mile, approx. 20 mins)
Our first adventure begins at Denton's heart, the quintessential Courthouse-on-the-Square. This picturesque trail encircles the historic downtown, greeting us with beautiful examples of preserved architecture. Peek inside the courthouse turned museum then pop over to Oak Street to succumb to the vintage charm of Atomic Candy. No trip's complete without a romp in Recycled Books, Records, and CDs. This purple-hued haven inside an old Opera House is what I call 'booktopia'!
This route is also dotted with plenty of eateries. Do me a favor and treat yourself to a slice from J&J's Pizza - it truly is the upper crust!
Middling Marvel: Denton Katie Woods Art Walk (4.8 km, 3 miles, approx. 60 mins)
Steady on! We're ramping up our stride with this picturesque tour of the Katie Woods Art Walk along the Greenbelt Corridor. It goes without saying, don't forget your camera. The route is adorned with splendid local artwork, where nature's canvas meets human creativity.
Snap a selfie with the larger-than-life Armadillo statue! There's a tale that if you rub its nose, you're in for some good luck. We end our artful amble at the serene Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center. Their wetlands trail is a haven for birdwatchers and serenity-seekers alike.
Long and Lovely: North Lakes Park Circuit (9.7 km, 6 miles, approx. 2 hours)
Brace yourselves, explorers! This is the pièce de résistance, the marathon of our Denton trek series. Unfurling around North Lakes Park, this leg-flexing circuit rewards us with a delightful mix of cityscapes and greenspaces. Be sure to check out the disc golf course, and perhaps have a frisbee fling!
A turn away from the main route brings us to the irresistibly quaint Denton Community Market boasting organic vegetables, homemade goodies and artisan creations. Finally, soak up the tranquil atmosphere around the park's lakes before heading off again. It's the perfect place for wildlife spotting. If you're lucky, you might even see a turtle or two!
