Where is Mahé on map

If you're a fan of the 'X' that marks the spot on an old pirate map, oh boy, do I have a location for you. Picture this: azure blue waters, emerald green hills, and a small island paradise that makes you want to shout, "Eureka! I've found it!" Yes, my friends, we’re speaking about the crown jewel of the Seychelles archipelago - Mahé.

A chameleon on the global map, it cleverly camouflages itself in the Indian Ocean. This pearl of a place is located to the east of mainland Africa. If you follow the equator southeast from Kenya’s Mombasa, your path will eventually cross this island paradise!

How big is Mahé

Now, you may be wondering, just how much room does this tropical wonderland take up? Mahé, though the largest island of Seychelles, is a petite delight! It's like the pocket universe of islands – abundant in diverse experiences, yet compact in size!

Boasting a land area of approximately 157 square kilometers, Mahé is the kind of place where you can wake up to sunrise vistas over the ocean, take a mid-morning mountain hike, and still make it back to the beach for a fresh seafood lunch. Imagine that! The island stretches about 27km long and 8km wide. It's pint-sized perfection that packs a punch!

How many people live in Mahé

In terms of inhabitants, Mahé is like a buzzing beehive, rich in warmth and activity. Almost 90% of Seychelles' population resides here – that's close to 78,000 island-dreaming souls, to be more precise. Victoria, the nation's capital and pulse of local life, is nestled on the northeastern coast of the island.

People often claim that one can't quantify happiness, but I'd argue they haven't heard about Mahé. With an absolute treasure trove of natural beauty and a community as vibrant as the coral reefs that skit its shores, it's no wonder that folks here often seem brimming with joy and contentment. Mahé truly is the kind of place that underlines the popular saying: "Good things come in small packages."

Hey, I’m Evan! Even though I’ve been bitten by a piranha, left stranded in the Sahara when my camel ditched me, and even spent a night in a Bhutanese jail over a supposedly stolen fruit (I swear I didn’t take it!), I still love traveling so much I don’t think I’ll ever stop. With over 130 countries under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for the next wild adventure… hopefully with fewer bites, camel betrayals, and misunderstandings over fruit!
