How to order a cab in Mahé

Hang on to your sun hats, folks, we're embarking on a whirlwind adventure! Ordering a cab in Mahé, the largest island in the Seychelles, is as easy as stealing coconuts from a palm tree. Not that I recommend doing that! Instead, you can hang loose and tap into one of several options available to you.

Do you happen to have a smartphone? Of course you do—it's 2022! Launch into action with homegrown apps like Taxi App Seychelles. Functional, reliable and simple—like the best of coconuts—you’ll have a ride ready in a jiffy. You may also use international platforms such as Bolt. Uber, I'm afraid, doesn't extend its services to this verdant paradise. So pack your maps, adventure seekers, or you might just have to hitch a ride with a particularly vivacious crab!

All operators accept cash, and most—Bolt included—welcome credit cards too. As for tipping? It's neither expected nor customary, though your driver might flash you a sunny smile if you do drop a few extra rupees.

Where to find a taxi in Mahé

Alrighty then! Where does one find a taxi on an island that feels like an endless beach party? Pretty much anywhere, you lucky duck! Dodo the Explorer (an imaginary bird with phenomenal navigation abilities) advises scouting for taxis outside the Seychelles International Airport, close to the ferry terminal or near popular hotels and ideally tourist hubs—think Beau Vallon or Victoria.

Taxis are abundant by day, and slightly less so by night. If you’re a night owl, make sure you pre-book. Most taxis in Mahé are metered, but do confirm this before hopping aboard to avoid any unscheduled detours to Rupee Island!

How Much Does a Mahé Taxi Cost

And now, my favorite part – talking about the shiny, sparkling cost. Mahé taxis are a fair bit more economical than your average coconut smoothie at a posh resort. To illustrate, a ride from the Seychelles International Airport to the heart of Victoria should cost around SCR 400-500. A longer ride, say, from the airport to Beau Vallon, might range from SCR 600-800.

Please note, my prudent explorers, night rates (typically after 8 p.m.) tend to be roughly 50% higher. It's a small price to pay for a twilight trip under a blanket of winking stars, don't you think?

So there you have it—the A to Z, or shall we say, the Airport to Zoo (yes, there's a zoo in Mahé) of taxi transportation in Mahé. Stay safe, respect local customs and norms, and don't forget to enjoy every minute of this island escapade. Let the rolling waves be your melody and the whispers of palm trees your guide as you traverse through the stunning landscapes of Mahé!

Hey, I’m Evan! Even though I’ve been bitten by a piranha, left stranded in the Sahara when my camel ditched me, and even spent a night in a Bhutanese jail over a supposedly stolen fruit (I swear I didn’t take it!), I still love traveling so much I don’t think I’ll ever stop. With over 130 countries under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for the next wild adventure… hopefully with fewer bites, camel betrayals, and misunderstandings over fruit!
