The Go-Getter's Guide to Walking Goa

Roll up your sleeves and dust off your walking shoes because we're about to embark on an unforgettable traipse through the coastal paradise that is Goa - India's pint-sized powerhouse of beauty.

1. The Bat's Belfry Loop - The Short Route

Route Distance: 2 km or 1.24 miles
Average Completion Time: 30 minutes

Fancy a quick yet charming saunter? Nestled away in the heart of Panjim, this newbie-friendly circuit encompasses the delightful Saint Sebastian Chapel and the enchanting Fontainhas Latin Quarter.

Our journey begins at the stunning Maruti Temple, perched atop Altinho Hill with panoramic city views that'll leave you breathless (or maybe it's just the steep climb - who's to say?). Weaving through vibrant Indo-Portuguese houses, you'll stumble upon the azure-hued Saint Sebastian Chapel. Don't forget to sneak a peek at the striking crucifix inside - it’s one of the rare effigies in which Christ is depicted with open eyes!

Just a hop, skip, and a cobblestone's throw away, you'll be entranced by the Fontainhas Latin Quarter, a visual symphony of pastel-hued houses and red-tiled roofs. And there we have it folks, an enchanting taste of Goa’s vibrant culture wrapped up nicely in a 30-minute traipse!

2. Candolim-Conundrum - The Medium Route

Route Distance: 8 km or 5 miles
Average Completion Time: 1.5 to 2 hours

Dive headfirst into the coastal magic with this beachy romp that'll get your legs a-movin' and your heart a-thumpin'. Starting at the famous Candolim Beach, prepare for a scenic stroll along the sandy stretch, with the Arabian Sea whispering along your route.

First up, we have the historic Aguada Fort, perched like an old sentinel overlooking the ocean. Built by the Portuguese in 1612, the fort doubles as a panoramic vantage point and a romantic sunset spot.

Next, make your way towards Sinquerim Beach and its iconic 16th-century fort. The lighthouse at Fort Aguada is unmissable, standing tall as a relic of the past.

End your walk at the tranquil Baga Beach, a perfect place to rest those hardworking legs and try some local seafood fare. You've earned it, you intrepid explorer!

3. Colva’s Coastal Carousel - The Long Route

Route Distance: 16 km or 10 miles
Average Completion Time: 4 to 5 hours

This lengthy saunter is perfect for the patient plodders and seaside savourers amongst us, promising majestic views and sandy toes. Starting at the bustling Colva Beach, the trail will take you through some of South Goa's best-kept secrets.

Your first pit-stop is Our Lady of Mercy Church, boasting an impressive façade and intriguing folklore surrounding the miraculous statue of Menino Jesus.

Keep trudging south, and you'll encounter the serene Benaulim Beach. Feel the peaceful air, the quieter vibes, and your heart, whispering, "Hey, this walking thing isn't half bad!"

Finally, we reach the tranquil Majorda Beach. Whether you choose to lay back and savour the sunset or indulge in the local cuisine, you deserve the rest. A long walk, a beautiful day, and the Goan coast as your companion - now that is something, isn't it?

There you have it, my dear wanderers - Goa in three routes. Whether you fancy a leisurely stroll around the city, a trek through the rocky coastline, or a challenging jaunt along stunning beachscapes, Goa has something for everyone. Happy exploring!

Hey, I’m Evan! Even though I’ve been bitten by a piranha, left stranded in the Sahara when my camel ditched me, and even spent a night in a Bhutanese jail over a supposedly stolen fruit (I swear I didn’t take it!), I still love traveling so much I don’t think I’ll ever stop. With over 130 countries under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for the next wild adventure… hopefully with fewer bites, camel betrayals, and misunderstandings over fruit!
